Mental Health & Religion 3 (3-0-0-0-0)

An examination of some of the complex relationships obtaining between mental health and religious commitment. Topics may include: debates surrounding alleged positive or negative impacts of religious belief on psychological well-being and the incidence of various forms of mental illness; comparison of the conceptions of well-being adopted in contemporary psychology and those upheld by various religious systems; how religions have historically engaged with issues surrounding mental illness; contemporary theologians’ reflections on mental health; ethical issues pertaining to religion and mental health; the role of religion in the Canadian mental health system today, etc.
