Topics may include: the debates over whether or to what degree religious commitment is an explanatory factor in the incidence of violence 'or in the promotion of non-violence'; a comparative survey of world religions’ teachings on violence; religious contributions to debates on the moral status of war and criminal punishment; historical case studies of apparently religiously motivated violence 'or pacifist social change'.
