Introduces the student to the basic concepts of the newly-emerging professional practice of parish nursing, which is defined as "A health promotion ministry based in Christian churches, the focus of which is preventative and in which faith and health are clearly linked and spiritual care is central" 'Miller, LW, A nursing conceptual model grounded in Christian faith, PhD dissertation, University of Victoria, Victoria BC, 1996, p 2'. The Miller Model nursing conceptual framework provides the organizational structure of the course content. The attitudes, knowledge and skills needed for the student's potential role as a "parish nurse" in a local Christian church, a health-related organization, or other community context, are systematically examined. Specific functions of the role 'e.g., health education, personal health counselling, advocacy and linking to resources' are described, and important practical issues regarding parish nursing practices are addressed. Open only to licensed Registered Nurses. Note: this course is offered through distance delivery Further information: Course availability and times |
