Chemistry 161

Chemistry 161 CH 161
Introductory Organic Chemistry I 3 (3-1s-3-0-0)

Principles of chemical bonding; the structure, three-dimensional shape, physical properties, and reactivity of simple organic compounds based on their functional groups. Highlights applications to compounds of importance and interest in the natural and industrial world, including petrochemicals, halogenated organics, and polymers. Laboratory work introduces basic manipulative techniques and illustrates some of the more important reactions covered in lectures.

Note: Formerly the first half of CH 160.
